Lucky Nooni SS'12 Collection

Another one of my first posts on UNDER YOUR ABAYA was about Abu-Dhabi/Oman - based t-shirt label Lucky Nooni. 

Designer and founder of Lucky Nooni, Manar Al Hinai, who received Abu Dhabi's "Arab Woman of the Year" award in 2011, launched her label in 2010 and since then her t-shirts have taken the GCC by storm. Manar is one of the many innovative fashion designers in the region who are preserving the "Khaleeji" or Gulf identity and aspects of the culture and heritage through fashion, combining traditional Gulf elements with pop culture. If you've been following UNDER YOUR ABAYA for a while, you will know that this is something I can't resist!

Here's a sneak peek at the SS'12 collection which comes in colour-popping shades perfect for this season's brights trend. As you can see Manar has taken inspiration from the detailing found on traditional Gulf gowns known as "jalabiyyas" or "disdaashas" and put her own funky and bright twist. These would look perfect worn with jeans, harem pants or colour bloc-ing bright trousers!

Jewels By Sogol SS'12 Collection: Bling Me A Skull

One of my first posts on UNDER YOUR ABAYA was about fab Dubai-based accessories brand Jewels By Sogol, founded and created by American-born Iranian jewelry designer Sogol Zabihi.

I recently got a glimpse at Sogol's SS'12 collection, called "Bling Me A Skull." Sogol has incorporated skulls with her signature dazzling Swarovski crystals to create a collection that is rock 'n' roll yet playful and feminine at the same time.

Rather than using skulls to create something dark, she chose to use ones in bright colours like pink, yellow, orange and blue to produce a collection that is fierce yet also funky and sweet, fit for the spring/summer season.
